History of Ashmore Bros. Inc.
Ashmore Bros. began humbly in 1930 when Russell C. Ashmore, Sr. started his business with little more than a pick, two shovels and a used 1916 Mack chain drive dump truck. After growing the business for a few years, he purchased a Lorain power shovel and expanded his operations to include excavation projects. In 1946 Russellís younger brother Mack joined him, and Ashmore Bros., Inc. was conceived. Within a year, they had begun working for the SCDOT performing surface treatment projects on state roads; not too long thereafter, they purchased their first hot mix asphalt plant.
Russell and Mack were joined in 1959 by Russellís son, Richard, and in 1960 by his other son, Russell, Jr. Over the decades to follow, the family team developed the company into a prominent paving and grading contractor with the leadership passing to the second generation. Beginning in the late Ď70ís, the third generation of Ashmores joined the company. Richard and Russell, Jr.each brought in two sons to help lead the business as it continued to grow. Through their enduring commitment to safety, quality and leadership in the industry, Ashmore Bros. has grown to be one of the top heavy/highway contractors in the Upstate of South Carolina. With over 200 dedicated associates, state-of-the-art asphalt plants, ready mix concrete plants (Century Concrete) and a complete line of modern equipment, Ashmore Bros. is a true industry leader in providing site preparation, curbing, stone base, crushing, recycling, and asphalt paving services to the Upstate and neighboring regions.
